Secert Life of a Shy Girl by Libby Donovan of Blunt Youth Radio

Yeah, okay, everybody can be shy. But, like what Libby Donovan told me in an interview in this episode of YouthCast, most of us can step it up when we need. We can make the introductions and tell the jokes if there's too much quiet around eventually get over our self-consciousness. But for some people, like Libby's friend Caitlin, there is no getting over shyness. It is who she is, whether she likes it or not.

I loved this piece. My best friend growing up was a wallflower and the relationship we had was very similar to the two friends in this piece. I was the outgoing friend who took her with me on my adventures and, when she didn't go with me, she lived vicariously through my storytelling. We used to joke that she was like the WB frog. She'd be all quiet and withdrawn around everyone else, but when we were alone she would be all out of herself and we would laugh together. My favorite times with her was when we were stuck doing dishes at whoever's house (hers or mine) and we would make up soap opera tales and tell them to each other.

We are both in our 40's now with families and jobs, but we often talk about our time together growing up together. Thank you for the memories.
