Economic Crisis – Summer Jobs?
During Tuesday night’s address to Congress, President Obama spoke these words: “The impact of this recession is real and it is everywhere. But while our economy may be weakened and our confidence shaken; though we are living through difficult and uncertain times, tonight I want every American to know this: We will rebuild, we will recover and the United States of America will emerge stronger than before.”
I began to think, with this recession, what are high school and college students, teachers, professors, school administrators going to do this summer? With school out of session, and the economy the way it is, will there be enough seasonal jobs available? Will we all need to plan differently this summer? I’m a teaching artist, so my theatre company is offering a theatre camp where I will work as the artistic director. But I was also planning to work a part-time job, possibly tutoring opportunities, but am I being too ambitious? What are you planning to do this coming summer? I know it seems so far away, but we all should probably be planning now.
